Blending e narratività

Abstract

Quindici anni dopo la pubblicazione del testo-chiave The Way We Think: The Mind and its Hidden Complexities, la teoria del blending concettuale e delle reti integrate di Gilles Fauconnier e Marc Turner si è consolidata come modello di analisi dei complessi e in gran parte inconsci processi di elaborazione della mente umana. Questo contributo prende brevemente in esame la struttura teorica del modello e il funzionamento del processo di blending, che permette l’ibridazione di input differenti e talvolta contraddittori nello sviluppo creativo di significati emergenti. Fornisce inoltre due esempi di come si sia tentato di applicare tale modello all’analisi delle complesse categorie di genere nella fiction letteraria.

Fifteen years after the release of the topical book The Way We Think: The Mind and its Hidden Complexities, Gilles Fauconnier and Marc Turner’s theory of Conceptual Blending and integrated networks has established its status as a model to investigate the complex and largely unconscious proceedings of the human mind. This contribution looks at the theoretic structure of the model and the way the process works, mixing different and sometimes clashing inputs to creatively develop emergent meaning. It also provides two examples of how the model itself has been tentatively expanded to account for such complex intellectual constructions as the genres of fictional texts in literary analysis.
