Abstract

The essay reflects on the relationship between anthropology and colonialism, primarily investigating the ‘structural precondition for anthropology’, namely the power relations between the dominant and the dominated, also in the light of current development anthropology. Through a historical examination, the text re-examines the relationship between anthropology and ‘practical men’, the ethical and political problems arising from it, and the more recent declinations of the issues in the phases dominated by post-modernism, post-colonialism and post-development.
