Abstract

Based on research conducted in the Grassfields of Cameroon, the essay explores local knowledge on AIDS as a product of layered interpretations that reveal the tensions of post-colonial society. In Nso', the breakdown of the body is attributed to the violation of the “laws of the land”. In discourses on the disease origin and the etiology, AIDS appears as a weapon used by the State and international powers to control the reproductive capacities of the population
