The article explores the semantics of terror, death, and hope in eastern Congo, focusing on the regions of Ituri and Kivu. Using Castoriadis' and Deleuze's theories of the imaginary, the author analyzes how experiences of violence and terror are deeply intertwined with collective and individual representations, creating a reality in which the real and the unreal are blurred. The article emphasizes the importance of an anthropological approach to understanding the historical, social and cultural dynamics that fuel violence in these regions.
