A machine for making ethnocentrism: critical observations on James Clifford's “art-culture system”

In this article, I will highlight some errors of construction in the diagram of the art-culture system – presented by Clifford in the chapter "On collecting art and culture" of his work "The predicament of culture" – which risk not fully bringing out the premises on which it is based: not only a “machine for making authenticity”, but also a “machine for making ethnocentrism”.
