The text deals with migration to Italy and explores the dynamics of power and the subjectivity of immigrants. The authors emphasise the need to analyse the technologies of power, such as race and gender, and the ways in which immigrants are disciplined. The policy of refoulement and deportation is an expression of the coercive power of the state. Subjectivity is seen as fundamental to understanding the effects of power on the individual, a concept explored in feminist theory and anthropological studies of violence. It shows how power influences the formation of subjectivity and how individuals respond and resist it. The book criticises migration policies by highlighting the material conditions and life experiences of migrants and shows how these are shaped by violence and domination. The authors propose an anthropological analysis of migration that takes into account the perspective of transnationalism and the complexity of migrants' social networks.
