Abstract

Through an ethnographic approach, this article analyses the political dynamics surrounding public space in the city of Milan. The article focuses on the gap between the social and symbolic practices through which migrants transform public parks into an extension of their sense of home - in this sense, it becomes a heterotopia - and the urban policies that aim to construct ethnic borders in urban space, by reinforcing racist and criminalising imaginaries.
