This contribution presents a summary of the main works that have characterized the anthropological approach to aging. The aim is to provide an international framework that outlines-in general terms-the added value of the anthropological gaze to this process. The main lines of research regarding the construction of "old age" in different social and cultural contexts and the ana-litical categories that have enabled its understanding will be outlined. The identification of macro-themes ranging from comparative studies, migration processes, reproductive health and ageism will make it possible not only to account for the main fields of interest of anthropologists and anthropologists who have been interested in these processes, but also to outline future avenues of research.
