Abstract

This article explores the intersections of possession, migration, and modernity, focusing on the experiences of Nigerian women in Italy involved in the Mamy Wata cult. Drawing from fieldwork at the Frantz Fanon Center in Turin, the study examines the persistence of possession symptoms and their therapeutic misinterpretations. The analysis highlights the cultural and psychological conflicts inherent in these experiences, challenging Western psychiatric frameworks.
