The essay introduces the monographic issue, starting with an analysis of the myth of Western modernity and its rootedness in a colonial perspective. The essays that make up the volume are then presented, exploring how colonialism still influences the present and how academic disciplines, such as anthropology, have helped to construct and perpetuate these power dynamics. In conclusion, the book is a critical analysis of colonialism, its persistence in modernity and the need for continuous critical repositioning to address the complexity of hegemonic trajectories.
