Abstract

The essay proposes a reflection on colonialism starting from the analysis of the colonial genealogy of castes in India, and its use to support nationalist interpretations of Hinduism. In the text, the historical-biographical dimension of the author, the role of anthropology and in particular of historical and critical anthropology, and, in a broader sense, the practice of writing, presented as a laboratory for the search for narrative strategies that escape the reproductive power of categories and are able to creatively counter established positions, take on particular relevance.
