Welcomed in the name of human rights by national NGOs, international NGOs and UN organizations, refugees are assisted as pure victims, interrupting the continuity between human and citizen. Through multiple ethnographic cases, this article analyzes some key components of contemporary refugees' existences, their humanitarian assistance, and their lives in places on the edge of social life, between bare life and the right to survival.
