Abstract
The Comic Book in Libraries: A Dynamic Distribution Path
As part of a research project focused on book distribution within the realm of bookstores as well as libraries, the analysis continues with an emphasis on comic books, explored in their various forms—from manga to graphic novels. The latter have not only boosted the publishing market's revenue but also reached new readers, both quantitatively and qualitatively, to the extent that they are now considered a benchmark for evaluating whether someone qualifies as a reader.
The production and circulation of comics are engaging the entire supply chain, starting with publishers and extending to endpoint channels like libraries. In the aftermath of the pandemic, libraries have had to reinvent many of their services and update the textual and linguistic formats available to users. Comics have proven to be a fitting tool for this purpose. Indeed, public libraries have enhanced their collections by investing in these new literary forms.
The question arises: how do libraries interact with the comic book market, which has seen significant growth? Only by analyzing the market—made possible through collaborations with organizations such as Leggere s.r.l.—will it be possible to determine which publishers, and how many, have consistently introduced their comic book productions into libraries over the past three to four years.
