El triángulo azul: Mariano Llorente and Laila Ripoll’s testimony theatre

Abstract

This article analyses the text and staging of El triángulo azul (2014) by Mariano Llorente and Laila Ripoll, a tribute to and a record of the heroic feat of the Spanish prisoners in Mauthausen concentration camp. In this sense, the treatment of the historical material is particularly relevant: the play substantially distances itself from Piscator’s and Weiss’ theories on documentary theatre to converge into a piece in which different testimonial layers allow a new way of looking at the past, on the one hand, and, on the other, a deep reflection about the human and collective tragedy through constant dialogue between reality and fiction.
