In this paper I analyze Cervantes’ El viaje del Parnaso (Journey to Parnassus) in relation to two Italian antecedents: Cesare Caporali’s Il viaggio di Parnaso and Pietro Aretino’s correspondence. Moreover, I demonstrate how Cervantes distances himself from these models, minimizing satire but maintaining humor. In this way he recreates comical situations and commonplaces, giving a new perspective to his Journey to Parnassus.
