Abstract

Clickbait is a manipulative headline in which the reader, intrigued by an upsetting, striking, unfinished or suggestive message, accesses the information after clicking on this caption. From a formal point of view, these headlines show a particular linguistic and discursive configuration which identifies them and allows them to reach their pragmatic and communicative purposes. In this paper we focus on the study of the types of words which the sender selects in order to construct clickbaits. We consider that the degree of achievement of the aforesaid purposes largely depends on the appropriate selection of word types.
