María Teresa León’s letters to Perla and Enrique Rotzair (1960-1971): memories of a friendship

Abstract

The friendship that María Teresa León and Rafael Alberti maintained with Perla and Enrique Rotzait is just one example of the strong links between the Spanish exiles of the Second Republic and the progressive Jewish community in Argentina, a subject that has not been studied very much. The 80 letters preserved - 14 are enclosed - illustrate this subject and the personalities of the friends, meetings and cultural activities, travels, editions, etc., and illustrate the intrahistory of Memoria de la melancolía.
